What To Expect
Any surgery is uncomfortable, and just because you are choosing to have it, doesn't make it any less so. We think it's important to have an idea of what to expect and therefore be prepared, when you have surgery abroad with LetsBuyBeauty.
You are travelling to a foreign country so think about what its like when you go abroad on holiday... all the same things apply. But add to the mix the fact that you may well be excited... and a little nervous!
Remember to bring a case on wheels... you may not appreciate it on the outward journey, but we are sure you will on the return journey.
We have worked hard to make your trip as stress free as possible:
- We collect you from the airport and take you to the hotel.
- You will have a consultation with your surgeon, use this time to ask as many questions as you want... it may be better to write them down before you leave in case your mind goes blank in the consultation.
- When in the clinic, any final tests will be carried out.
Food
The hotel may be on a bed and breakfast basis. If you don't feel comfortable going to the dining room in the first day or two, room service is a good idea, or we will arrange for food to be brought to you. Once you feel like going out we will tell you where the best places to eat are, although the hotel restaurants are always a good choice.
What to wear
It's safe to say that you wont feel like dressing up for a few days! One of the great things about going abroad for surgery is that no one from home can see you...
So you can be as comfortable as you like. Bring comfortable, non restricting clothes to suit the surgery you are having. Remember, even if you have surgery to reduce certain areas they will be swollen for a while.
- Big shirts... that button down the front.
- Loose waisted trousers or skirts.
- Tops that go over the head should have a zip or wide neck.
- Comfortable shoes (don’t add to the pain with blisters!).
- If you are having breast surgery you will not be able to wear an underwired bra for some weeks. A suitable sports bra in a couple of different sizes is a better idea.
- Comfy pyjamas or nightdress, again with a wide neck or button on the front.
- Big sunglasses!
- If the weather will be sunny then a sun hat. Keep the sun off those new scars.
What else shall I take?
Depending on your recovery time, you may not feel like moving far from your room for a few days, or like doing something that takes a lot of concentration.
Our clients have brought the following... we think they are great ideas:
- DVDs (as soppy as you like)
- Tissues
- MP3 player or Ipod
- Talking books and player
- Books
- Fresh wipes, you may not be able to have a shower for a day or so
- Mobile phone or other ways of keeping in touch with those at home
What to expect afterwards
As we keep saying, everyone is different. This effects your recovery time and how soon you can get back to normal. The golden rule is:
‘Don't rush it.. Don't rush home and Don't rush to get back to 100% fitness!’
We will be as happy as you, to return the brand new you to your family, but your recovery will be aided by your stay with us after your surgery. We include the surgeon's recommended stay in the price of your surgery, but we can arrange for you to stay longer if you want.
What you can and cannot do, how long you have off work, and how long you should leave it before going back to normal daily activities depends largely on the surgery. You will be given list of instructions on discharge from the clinic. If you are at all unsure please talk to your patient advisor, they are just a phone call away, before going back to the gym etc.
When you return home we will continue to look after you and monitor your progress, making any follow up appointments necessary.
